Main dream of all creative life Vasily Shukshin was to make a film about Stepan Razin. “I have come to give you freedom” – the so-called script, which he has repeatedly appealed to the leadership of the Gorky Studios, and later studio “Mosfilm”, with a proposal to run the script to production.

In 1967 Vasily Shukshin with the artist Peter Pashkevich riding on the Volga city, choose nature for future film of Stepan Razin. They found a lot of interesting historical sites, Astrakhan and the Volga was the last city on their way. There, they had to find a place for location filming troops of Stepan Razin and scenes capture the besieged city. But those plans did not materialize, because at this time in Astrakhan outbreak of cholera. Peter Paszkiewicz got to the hospital on suspicion of a terrible diagnosis. And Vasily Shukshin was quarantined at the hotel, cut off from the world. For a whole month they were unable to find family and friends, because then the news of the outbreak of cholera suppressed. Six weeks later Shukshin and Pashkevich returned to Moscow, but the studio to them. Gorky by the time the project closed.

All that remained of this film about the failed Stepan Razin – it sketches Peter Pashkevich scenario Vasily Shukshin “I come to give you freedom” and memoirs of contemporaries.

Anatoly Zabolotski “In life and on the screen,” notes cameraman. 1999

“We drove around Astrakhan, she came to shoot the distant past, affecting not so much dirt as doomed. Was afraid to raise the camera … Even self-censorship, fear was, of Yango-aul especially. Do not neglect, and waiting for the end.

All we had to go to the delta of the river and on the shore of one of the branches of noodle. In the morning the boat on time does not appear. Soon the local radio quarantined indefinitely in connection with cases of cholera. Often ambulances with sirens. On the houses began to appear pasted flyers with a skull, a red stripe down the inscription: “Do not enter. Cholera. ” Thinned out in the streets of pedestrians, there was more military. Only the heat was unchanged. They rushed to the airport – closed. And no information. Long distance phone does not work.

These days every occurred to you but to the entire abdomen zaneduzhil our artist Peter Paszkiewicz, was taken to the detention center, and I was with him in the room settled by the laws – pin, and I have to ring out. Fortunately for me, it was not me in the emergence of doctors in the room, the attendant said, “One, he was living in the room.” By the end of the week we found the location Pashkevich. He tossed in the prison, they saw us from afar. Access to the insulator guarded by soldiers and police.

Oppressive heat, even at night at 30 degrees. Chlorinated water to the limit, all the dishes were white. Reception of telegrams recommended: “The delayed at work, send money. Alive. Healthy. ” Any deviation priemschitsa strikes out before your eyes. After a month and nine days, having uncomfortable procedure week prison, camp organized by the Pedagogical Institute in the housing humiliating medical supervision at disinfected carpet we entered the bus that brought our group to the plane, next to Moscow “

Paola Volkova, critic, director of the Andrei Tarkovsky

Peter Isidorovich all, including me, called “Peter.” There was no familiarity, as it was not in the behavior of those years, and could not be, in particular P. Pashkevich, a man of style and impeccable taste. The appeal has been named general good attitude and kindness. After all, not go up and tell him what he is always a pleasure to meet him. Fewer and fewer and fewer people that can unequivocally say, intelligent person. Even if the talented, educated, good family, with a claim to this feature – all the same “intelligence” – a rare property of the individual. Peter Isidorovich – the embodiment of intelligence, which is always first and foremost in their actions and behavior consonant with the human values.

He never raised his voice, and not rude, he never talked about himself and the children, he never spoke stilted inspirational words and did not speak at the meetings. He never cursed, but perfectly fine and joking, and I can not imagine that anyone could P. Pashkevich fail or betray.

He created posters, building sets, studied painting and was harmonious person. But forget all the writers, painters, musicians. To live – they should remember. Double happy was Peter Isidorovich: he has children who love him and remember. They understand the importance of creativity of their father Peter Pashkevich for all of us and those who follow us.
